About our trainers (currently just Anna, but keep an eye out for more)!
Anna Boger, DVM
Rider, trainer and veterinarian, who loves to use her academic background in behavior and learning theory to help horses with all types of problems.
Dr. Anna Boger (formerly Baker) is the head trainer and veterinarian here at Misty Step. Anna got her start riding at a young age in Washington DC, and quickly developed an interest in training and improving challenging horses. She also started teaching lessons and summer camp at Rock Creek Park Horse center, which she continued for a total of about 11 years off and on. She also completed a Neuroscience degree at Brown University in 2012, during which time she first became interested in the academic study of learning and behavior. At that time she was applying these behavior principles to shelter dogs to help them get trained for new homes, but it wasn't long before she was applying these same principles to horses she was working with. After 3 years of taking working student positions from some of the top riders in the country in the hunters, jumpers and dressage, Anna returned to school for her veterinary degree in 2015 at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
During vet school Anna was able to continue to ride and practice her craft, as well as study behavior with veterinary behaviorist Dr. Leticia Fanucchi. Her senior paper and presentation was on the topic of the use of behavioral modification in equine practice and was entitled “When, Why, and How the Equine Veterinarian can use Learning Theory to Benefit the Practice”. Since then she traveled to Rhode Island where she continued her veterinary training with a general equine medicine internship at Ocean State Equine Associates, followed by a Fellowship at the same practice in Lameness and Sports Medicine. While there she also started taking on her own behavior clients and further building her skills in behavioral medicine. After her fellowship, Anna was ready to move back to DC with her husband, Sam and mini-pig, Stinkerbell and start doing her own training and veterinary medicine at Misty Step Stables.
